What is the best way to attach a FLOAT to a surface?

Remove the protective backing from the rubber and find a smooth surface, such as a mirror. Wipe down the surface to remove dust and dirt. Applying a few droplets of water onto the surface of the black rubber pad right before attachment can help create a slightly stronger seal. Pulling the lever all the way up and placing your thumb in the center of the FLOAT, press the black rubber pad against the surface until it is firmly in place. Once the entire black rubber pad is making contact with the surface, snap the lever down to engage the suction cup. Once FLOAT is attached to the surface, give it a light tug to ensure the suction cup is fully engaged before placing your device on the ledge.

What is the best way to remove a FLOAT from a surface?

When FLOAT is properly attached, the black rubber pad is secured to the surface by a tight vacuum seal. To detach FLOAT, pull the lever up to disengage the suction system, then use your finger to lift the edge of the pad from the surface, breaking the vacuum seal.

How easy is it to attach and detach FLOATS?

FLOAT is very easy to attach and detach from smooth, non-porous, and flat surfaces. Please see the directions on how to attach and detach here.

What surfaces are ideal for FLOAT?

Smooth, non-porous, and flat surfaces are perfect for FLOAT. Glass, tile, marble, mirrors, metal, and plastic materials are ideal surfaces on which to attach FLOAT. FLOAT does NOT work on surfaces like brick, drywall, and wood (thoroughly finished wood may work depending on whether or not the surface is porous). Sometimes, there could be a laminated, smooth finish layered over an underlying wood surface, which could work well with FLOAT.

How much weight does FLOAT hold?

One FLOAT can hold about 10 pounds, this is equivalent to more than 20 times the weight of an iPhone.

Will there be colored FLOATs?

We currently produce FLOATs in white. We plan to release colored FLOATs in the future.

Where do you ship?

Does FLOAT have a warranty?

Yes. We offer a One Year Limited Warranty. Please read more about that here.

How long can a FLOAT remain attached to a surface?

We have tested FLOATs that have remained attached to tile surfaces for more than 4 months without removal. We recommend that you detach and reattach your FLOAT at least once every three months.

Where is FLOAT made?

What devices work on FLOAT?

Almost all phones, tablets, and e-readers that are thinner than 14mm or 0.55 inches will work well with FLOAT. If your device thickness along with the thickness of other products (such as a case) is larger than 14mm or 0.55 inches, your device and case combination will not work with FLOAT. If so, please email us at support@buyfloat.com to let us know. We take customer feedback very seriously as we plan our future FLOAT product releases. Your feedback can help shape our new products.

Can FLOAT get wet?

FLOAT itself can get wet, however, if you plan to use your device with FLOAT in wet environments, you should be aware of how water resistant or waterproof your device is. Never use FLOAT in wet environments with a device that is not water resistant or waterproof. If you use FLOAT in the bathtub area, we recommend attaching FLOAT away from any direct water exposure (e.g. opposite wall from the shower head).

How does the Safety Lever work?

FLOAT’s Safety Lever locks down the vacuum seal that is created between the black rubber pad and the attachment surface. When the suction system is not fully engaged, the Safety Lever protrudes to prevent customers from using FLOAT as intended–your device simply will not rest evenly along the base.

Where in my house can I use FLOAT?

You can use FLOAT anywhere in the house that has smooth, non-porous, and flat surfaces such as bedroom windows, kitchen backsplashes, bathroom mirrors, bathtub tiles, and more.

To what degree is FLOAT tilted?

FLOAT is tilted 10 degrees back to maximizes the viewing angle while allowing your device to rest safely without falling forward.

Does FLOAT work on drywall?

No, FLOAT does not work on porous surfaces like drywall.

How big is FLOAT?

The length and width of FLOAT is about the size of your standard phone. FLOAT’s dimensions are 5.4 inches in length, 2.8 inches in height, and 2.5 inches in depth. It is important to note that the depth of the ledge/base is 14mm or 0.55 inches. Any device with a case or product add-on (e.g. credit card holder) that is larger than 14mm will NOT fit properly on a FLOAT.

Do I need a waterproof or water resistant device to use FLOAT?

In dry environments, no. In wet environments, it is highly recommended that you use water resistant or waterproof devices for FLOAT.

How do I know if my device is waterproof or water resistant?

Many devices come with an IP or Ingress Protection rating, which offers a classification for how resistant an electrical device is to water and common materials like dust. An IP Rating of 67 (IP67) means that a device can be protected from immersion in water up to 1 meter in depth for up to half an hour. An IP rating of 68 (IP68) means that a device can be protected from immersion in water up to 1.5 meters in depth for up to half an hour. Apple's iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X, and XR have an IP67 rating, and the iPhone XS, XS Max have an IP68 rating. Some manufacturers such as OnePlus have opted out of investing in certification and external testing to receive an IP rating for their devices, however they claim some degree of water resistance for their products (e.g. OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 6, and OnePlus 6T). Please check your device manufacturer’s listed ratings and make a note of how water resistant or waterproof your device is.
